Thing 16#

After exploring igoogle and Pageflakes i have decided that pageflakes for me is more on what i need. I liked how it had information of local new, to do list, an calander, the weather. With igoogle it seemed the page was to compacted, un like pageflakes. Pageflakes just felt like it was more me. I liked the little Ipod for podcasts. I will not make a home page. Sadly right now my life is way way to busy to do much of anything. I am luck if i am in bed by 2am every night. But i think that once i become a teacher that a start page could be useful. As a teacher it is your job to stay up with current events, technology and knowledge its self.

I find a online calander a very usedul tool as not only for a teacher but for any indvidual. I know that it saves me from haveing to drag my planner around with me all the time. With the calender online i can pull it up on any computer, ipod and iphone. I think it could be also useful for a teacher. We all know that students losses paperwork all the time, and with a online calander a student could just go to the site to see what is going on in class that day or the next.

The sticknotes i use EVERYDAY. No not the real sticknotes, but the ones that i have ALL over my desk top hahaha. It is a easy way for me to remember a to do list. Or like what i mainly use it is to keep track of useless little peices of information. Me and my husband also use it for our baby name list hehehe.

Wiki's area a great idea for the school environment. Just like blogs or i google. Wiki could allow a teacher or even a entire school to make a page that students could pull up their class and leave facts, questions. A teacher could also use it as a home work assignment for like current events. Asking Students to look up a current event and report on it on the wiki. This way every student can see several things going on out their in the world. Same goes for math, science. Over may be the weekend or spring break assign the students a report or a math problem that they have to solve, report and explain on the wiki. It can also be a great way for a school staff to stay on top of policies and acedmic changes.

WOW i can defently see myself using some of these flowchart and mind map tools not only in my personal life but also in my teaching and classroom. For flowcharts i choose gliffy. There were so many things i could make with in gliffy. Such as a flowchart, floor plan, Org Charts. The flowcharts could be ised in the class to show the steps in a project or steps and stations with in the class. Of course the Floor plan an teacher could use to make a sitting chart. The teacher could even have the students go on the website and create something for a project, and the teacher could make a instruction chart from that every website on the steps in prodcuing a flow chart.

The other tool that i played with was mind maps. I looked at two sites. bubbl.us and mindmeister. To me mine meister just seemed a little to crazy in the mind maps it made. Bubbl.us from the start seemed so easier to use and explore.

I think the bubbl.us could be a GREAT website for a teacher to show how to brain storm and allowthe students to use the site to brain storm for reports and papers they are assigned to wirte.

Zoho Writer is a very useful too i think. Most time when you want to work on a paper or a project you have to carry a flash drive with you so you can work on it on any computer. However with Zoho Writer i can just sign in on goggle and zoho writer pull up my document and work on it on any computer. I can defently see this coming in handy for teachers. Linking documents they wrote on to their classroom web page. Zoho even has were you can mail merge your document, such as progress reports or just letters to the parents. I think also i cool tools is that you can link your documents to your blog. Know i could not do it cause for some reason it said it could not connect. However if one was able to get it to work you could write a homework assignment and post in on your blog so your students can look up all the intsructions and th assignment at home. (Way to save a tree too, hahaha)

Google Doc is a great resource. Like me a Teacher can produce her gradebook on this tool and then send the link to the students parents. With the Link the parents are able to pull to gradebook up and see how their students are doing. Same goes for assignment instructions, or important class news. Her is my link to my Grade Book that i created

I think Google Doc can help students interact on group projects. I today's world parents schedules are busy busy busy. With their parents busy lives students might find it difficult to get together with others to work on a porject. With Google Doc they might be able to divide the project in parts. Each students does a part and then the group can invidually get on to a Google Doc and add their part.

After working with both Google and Zoho, i prefer Google. With google one of the most used website i feel more sutdents and adults might already know the tool. I also like how i can keep it private or open a document to anyone to see it and work on it if allowed.

يجب عليك الحلم الأول من أجل أحلامك قادمة تلح.----You must first dream in order for your dreams to come ture----

This is one thing that I used Google for. I actually use Google’s translator several times in my own personal use. I have been trying to find a quote that I like as a tattoo. I don’t want it in English so I have been trying several different quotes in several different languages. This tool on Google can be a GREAT help to teachers. The US is not just a English speaking country any more. Spanish and Arabic is being introduces more and more every year. And the chances of getting a ESL student in their class is great. Google Translator can come in to great help to a teacher. It can help you change your home work assignments and instructions into a language a student might find easier to understand that way they don’t fall behind well trying to learn English.

Google Calendar is a great tool for Teachers. They can even do Lesson plans on it. It allows them to pull up there schedule at any computer. And if you give the site to your student could even look at homework and when it is due. It allows you to create a calendar fast and print it out for your students or even you. Allows you one less thing to carry around (organizer) Technology is taking over our lives, and with this tool you could pull up your busy schedule right up on your iPod, iphone or whatever one of the i tools you have. HEHEHE Here is my calendar https://www.google.com/calendar/render?pli=1&gsessionid=lCkXSiWkThLPm-VKiLb7NQ

Though I did not create one the Google Home page is a GREAT tool for teachers. You could put things up about your classroom, things due, things they are learning, and set up a chat with parents incase they have questions. I think a classroom homepage can help connect the not only the classroom but the teacher and the parents as well.

f some likes to search the web and find not only useful blogs but websites as well, Google blog is a great resourse to help keep track of all the different ones that interest you. Newsreader is also a good it plucks all the news websites that you might be interested in and and allow you to look at the wrolds news or topics that interest you with out haveing to pull up several differnet websites. TO me these to Web 2.0 tools are a way to simplify just one more thing in your life.

In a school setting both the google reader can come in handy as well as the newsreader. The google reader i think it might just help the teacher keep track of blogs that she uses a lot for research and information. Now The Newsreader can be useful to keep the class up on current events. Or to share news on a subject or a topic that the class is studing. Or maybe like what i have on my google reader (Joke of the day).
